DUBAI, November 17, 2025 – Emirates has announced a massive order for 65 additional Boeing 777-9 widebody jets, valued at an estimated $38 billion at list prices, on the opening day of the Dubai Airshow 2025.

The landmark agreement solidifies Emirates position as the world's largest operator of the Boeing 777 family and brings its total order book for the 777X family to 270 aircraft. The expansion reinforces the airline's long-term fleet strategy, which is dedicated to operating a young, efficient, and all-widebody fleet.

The new aircraft will be powered by GE Aerospace’s GE9X engines, increasing Emirates' total commitment to 540 units and cementing its status as the largest customer for the engine program. Deliveries for the latest batch of 777-9s are scheduled to begin from the second quarter of 2027.

The agreement includes the option for Emirates to convert part of its new 777-9 order into the smaller 777-8 or the proposed, stretched 777-10 model. This option provides strong and practical support for Boeing’s feasibility study to develop the 777-10, demonstrating the airline's continued commitment to larger, more efficient aircraft for future traffic growth.

A Long-Term Commitment

The strategic purchase is directly aligned with the airline’s and Dubai’s projected growth plans, aiming to manage rising global passenger demand and increasing operational constraints at major international hubs. The 777-9 jets are recognized for their improved efficiency and enhanced passenger experience, boasting approximately 20% less fuel consumption and emissions compared to the older models they are set to replace.

HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive, Emirates Airline and Group, emphasized the strategic importance of the deal:

"Emirates is already the world's largest Boeing 777 operator and we are expanding our commitment to the programme today with additional orders worth $38 billion for 65 Boeing 777-9s, and 130 GE9X engines. This is a long-term commitment and testament to our partnership with Boeing and GE, and to US aerospace."

Sheikh Ahmed also noted the airline's preference for high-capacity jets:

"Emirates has been open about the fact that we are keen for manufacturers to build larger capacity aircraft, which are more efficient to operate especially with projected air traffic growth and increasing constraints at airports. We fully support Boeing's feasibility study to develop the 777-10 and have options to convert our latest 777-9 order to the 777-10 or the 777-8."

Economic and Global Impact

Emirates' investment in the 777X program is expected to have significant economic ripple effects. The announcement solidifies Dubai's confidence in sustained travel growth and its role as a vital global gateway linking the East and West. By securing a modern fleet the airline is set to boost global tourism connectivity to the emirate.

On the manufacturing front, the deal represents a substantial contribution to the US aerospace sector, supporting hundreds of thousands of high-value factory jobs across multiple US states over the life of the programs. Stephanie Pope of Boeing and Russell Stokes of GE Aerospace both highlighted the strength of their decades-long partnership with Emirates and the airline's crucial role in shaping the future of widebody aviation.
